HENLEY ON THAMES
FAYLAND HOUSE
Faylands House by David Chipperfield Architects was voted the best house in the world in 2015 by Architectural Review.
The unique exposed architectural white concrete soffit design required a special plywood board to be manufactured and imported from Germany. Unfortunately, a fault in the manufacture resulted in water being absorbed from the concrete at different rates around the edges of the board which resulted in a slight dusting of the surface in these areas, which presented as dark staining.
BETOcare UK's technicians were commissioned to remove the dark staining and return the soffits to the original architectural intent. This was complicated by the use of titanium dioxide in the concrete to act as a brightener. However, BETOcare UK developed a unique treatment protocol to address the issues.
